Contra ReBirth - Contra that everyone missed so much!

September 4, Konami has released the reincarnation of the best action movie era 8 and 16 bits - Contra. Contra ReBirth came out on WiiWare (downloadable game service for Wii).

The game, as before, is a two-dimensional action platformer, the goal of which is to reach the end of the level by killing everyone in its path and fight with the boss, who closes each level. Well, you yourself know everything.







Contra ReBirth has a certain similarity of plot: evil forces under the leadership of Colonel Salamander land somewhere in South America, Lance Bean (Lance Bean - the character of the very first Contra, the one in red pants) goes for a showdown with them and disappears.

The game begins with the fact that the Galactic President asks our character - Bill Raizer (Bill Rizer - again from the first Contra, the one in blue pants) to save Lance and at the same time solve all enemies.

Contra has always been complicated. And ReBirth is no exception. With standard 3 lives, even the first-level mid-boss can hardly be reached on the first attempt. Not to mention how to defeat him, and then the boss level. However, patience and work (and attentiveness and quick response) will help in moving along the plot.

As usual, the key to success is identifying and memorizing attack patterns. Nahrapom will not beat a single boss. This excessive by modern standards complexity can scare away many players. It's a shame to realize this, after acquiring the game, so I’ll say right away: in Contra ReBirth, every step is pulled out of the game with his teeth. For every victory you pay with a grinding of teeth and calluses on your fingers. If you don’t like these games, don’t waste your money.



All types of weapons are familiar to us from the old parts. In addition to the standard automaton, there is a laser (L), self-guided missiles (H) and a weapon firing at several directions simultaneously (S), which we called “super” in childhood (assuming that this is exactly the letter S, whereas in reality it turned out that is “Spread” :).

Visually, the game is a direct heir to the 16bit, but the increased system power allows you to use a much larger number of moving objects - something constantly flies around and explodes. The background also became more saturated.



Bottom line: A wonderful game, a successor of the glorious traditions of Megaman 9, to revive the classics on modern consoles. Hardcore gamers only.
