Bit.ly overtook TinyURL

In the global market, the shortening of the URL resulted in a change of the leader : the Bit.ly service outstripped the competitor TinyURL .

Three months ago, TinyURL’s positions seemed unshakable . He controlled 75% of the market, and Bit.ly was in second place with a measly 13%. However, in March, Bit.ly found new investors who invested $ 2 million in the project. Why would they invest in a hopeless outsider? But everything is much simpler. The fact is that co-owners of Bit.ly also own shares in the notorious Twitter project. That is, this service to reduce links was initially doomed to success. After integration into the Twitter interface, traffic through Bit.ly began to grow by 10% per week.

This example once again illustrates the risky nature of Internet startups. In just a couple of months, your million-dollar business may just evaporate.
