In the Moscow Metro, smart cards with RFID tags will replace traditional travel cards.
The Mikron plant owned by Sitronics will soon begin to deliver non-contact tickets to the Moscow Metro. Smart cards with built-in radio tags will be used to enter the subway along with the current magnetic cards from the beginning of next year, and then they can completely replace them. The cost of the pilot project "Sitronics" did not disclose, but according to an anonymous source, the bill goes to tens of millions of dollars.
It is argued that the use of these cards will increase the capacity of the metro during peak hours, and also eliminate errors in coding and accounting of travel tickets. Under the terms of the contract, paper contactless smart cards will be sold in parallel with the current magnetic cards until the end of the first half of 2007. If successful, since the beginning of 2008 magnetic cards will gradually be withdrawn from circulation.
According to experts, these travel cards can be faked, but this is much more difficult to do than in the case of traditional magnetic travel cards. ')
