The blogging system that has replaced the traditional for the late 90s system of forums and conferences is undoubtedly a step forward in building communication-oriented resources, that is, speaking Russian, communication. Although the word blog comes from literally “web log,” “web diary,” it is clear to the naked eye that the concept went far enough away from real life metaphors in the process of generalization and abstraction — the diary can be collective, and you can group the records in a variety of ways.
In general, it turned out that, in general, the blogging system began to include the previous, forum system. In this, I see both continuity and the hope of creating interfaces that provide backward social compatibility (blogs that can look and work exactly like forums, if asked, or where not to go).
And it seems to me that the problem of social compatibility is not far-fetched. The blogging system has no metaphorical analogy in the real world. Nothing like blogs exists physically among us. Difficulties begin already at the linguistic level when designing a specific website - it is extremely difficult for an “ordinary person” to explain how all this works, it is not hard to grasp at the intuitive level.
A more abstract and flexible system is good because it allows you to structure posts in an arbitrary way: a list of the latter, a list of the last with a tag, a list of popular, a list of recently commented, an author’s list, a list of the author’s friends, and so on. Therefore, there is a huge temptation to realize at once all the available options for grouping, load navigation, create a system of tags and filters ... and the more it is done, the more difficult it will be for the visitor to determine how to use all this. If you have conceived something with blogs - think over many, very many restrictions.

It will seem that you are not using all the possibilities - but this is not scary. So I consider myself a person who is well adapting to various kinds of interfaces, I have been using a computer for twenty years, and I cannot confidently say what is obvious to me how it is, for example, Habrjabr . That is, no, just the same from the point of view of entrails, everything is very clear there - blogs, posts, comments, users, tags. And how, sorry, to explain to a newbie all this, if he does not know the words “blog”, “post” and “tag”? Habr was for some time too unpleasant for me precisely because I felt like an idiot there.
A more positive example is the sports portal sports.ru . Although, to be honest, when I first saw him, I immediately realized - hell, this is just a habr about sports, we are leaving. But in the end I had to delve into, as well as Habr - just a professional necessity. When you get used to everything, you see a lot of advantages, amenities, positive moments (although there is always something to improve in trifles, of course). But the difficulty of first contact with such a resource is a real problem.
