Some time using the Glofiish X650 Communicator (Windows Mobile 6.1) to synchronize the calendar and address book on a computer running Ubuntu 9.10 with a bunch of SynCE, OpenSync and MultiSync, I repeatedly encountered annoying synchronization instability - the established partnership between the devices disappeared, duplicate entries appeared, events moved in the calendar and so on.
I couldn’t overcome the instability of synchronization work and began to look for alternative solutions. And found.
The first thought was of using the Funambol service (project site -
www.funambol.com ). Restrained by the lack of a declared plug-in for Evolution. And for Outlook or Thunderbird, please, but I did not plan to use any of them, not wanting to install Windows programs, nor put up with the limited functionality of the address book. Thunderbird
I needed a solution specifically for Evolution! And it turned out that it already exists.
The syncEvolution project (site -
syncevolution.org ).
The work is based on a bunch of SyncML and Genesis.
Evolution is, of course, supported.
Implemented server selection (I stopped at Funambol) graphics mode.
Most fields are synchronized correctly, additional fields are not lost, but are stored in the notes to the contact.
Contact photos are also synced.
And, most importantly, everything works stably, and events no longer scatter by calendar.
In general, I did not find any obvious flaws.
And I will be glad if these notes help someone else.
