The use of social networks in business is gaining momentum. We have already written about the solutions that IBM offers to build intracorporate social networks . But business is not limited to it. Access to external social networks, such as LinkedIn and TripIt, helps users around the world more efficiently organize their working contacts and plan trips. The idea behind IBM’s collaboration with social networks is simple: “There must be a widget for every need of Lotus Notes users.”

Lotus Notes is the first collaboration software that provides desktop access to LinkedIn and TripIt. Widgets are located on the right side of the Notes client, making it easier for millions of users around the world to access these social networking services. These social networks are very popular in the West - especially among business audiences, hence the reason why they were embedded in the Notes interface.

TripIt service allows travelers to build their itinerary using information about booked hotels, plane tickets or, for example, to the theater. TripIt draws up a complete travel plan, combining information from various booking sites, and automatically adding event information to the Notes calendar. In addition, the service allows you to share your travel plan with other registered users. The ability to quickly plan your trips and meet with someone from your business colleagues, while on a business trip in another city or country, is one of the ways to improve the effectiveness of communication (and business in general) using social networks.

LinkedIn is a business-oriented social network of 43 million users in more than 200 countries. Micromashup for LinkedIn allows Lotus Notes users to search and view profiles of colleagues and partners, as well as receive information about updates and messages on this social network. LinkedIn was conceived as a social network in which people can maintain their business contacts and find new opportunities for professional collaboration. Now it can be done with one click, without closing the usual email client.
