Intel predicts netbook sales boom

In the coming years, a significant growth is expected in the PC market, the same as was observed on the mobile phone market since the advent of mobile communications, according to Intel.

If earlier in the family there was hardly one computer, now it is becoming the norm to keep at least a PC for each family member. PCs are truly personalized, said Muli Eden, vice president and general manager of the Mobile Platforms Group at Intel.

Now the PC market has turned into a real arena where a tough “battle for the consumer” is taking place, in which the focus is not only on the performance of devices (the parameters of the same netbooks are in most cases the same), but also on their elegance and beauty.

In most markets for PC sellers, the main role is not even the possibility of potential buyers to part with the nth sum of money, but their desire to do so. And in order to become desirable, the device must have a number of useful characteristics - to have pre-installed content, a convenient user interface and the necessary programs.

Optimistic views on market growth are justified in developed countries, and in developing countries the situation looks somewhat different. In India, for example, 10 thousand rupees (US $ 200) is almost an exorbitant price for bulk purchases of PCs of decent configuration.

Netbook prices will fall, according to Eden. But it does not undertake to say when the price will fall below US $ 200.
It is expected that the demand for computers in developing countries will increase due to subsidies. For example, telecommunications service providers may offer netbooks at a discount or provide free of charge under tariff plans.

Recall that Intel initially assumed that the demand for netbooks with an Atom processor will grow in developing countries, thanks to the low cost of devices. However, now 85% of all sales are in the markets of developed countries.

Many users in these countries use netbooks not only for web surfing and communication, but also for storing movies. That is why manufacturers are now equipping netbooks with large hard drives.
