Rules for writing texts on a corporate website and not only

In any company creates a huge number of texts. Letters to customers, partners, outsourcers, texts of leaflets, press releases, texts for the site, articles, comments. Alas, they are often terrible. We offer ten tips on how to do it so as not to turn the content on the corporate website into absolute trash.

  1. Learn Russian at school. However, for the majority the advice is irrelevant. In such a case, learn, at least, how the verbs tend to lean on. It’s not difficult: just ask a verb auxiliary question. For example, wondering if you need a soft sign in the verb “not to be mistaken”, ask the question “what to do?”. The question contains a soft sign - it means that it will be in the answer. Errors in such verbs betray the author’s exceptional illiteracy.
  2. Try to figure out in which cases the pronoun “You” cannot be written with a capital letter. The site can not. And in general, “You” are advised to use extremely rarely, except in rare cases when you highly respect your interlocutor. In no case do not write "you" from an uppercase letter if we are talking about several interlocutors. This is a common mistake.
  3. Less words. Get rid of half the words on each page, and then remove another half of what's left. Readers will thank you.
  4. Never use exclamation marks anywhere. Bad taste. And yet - do not write in CAPITAL LETTERS. If successful, do not use italic and bold spelling.
  5. Remove ads. Phrases like “We are a technological leader in the industry” or “Our solutions are unique for their innovative developments” better remove. First try to figure out what their uniqueness is. I bet they are not unique.
  6. Nobody reads texts on the Internet. So take pity on the reader - give the most clear, simple wording, avoiding the abundance of adjectives and participle sentences. And less emotion.
  7. After the headings and subtitles never put a point.
  8. Choose words that are understandable to the user, not the employees of the company.
  9. If you want to give your visitors a task, use the imperative. Do not "fill in the questionnaire", but "fill in". The response rate may be noticeably higher. Infinitive does not encourage action.
  10. Personal pronouns look bad. Instead of “our company offers”, “we have unique experience” write “company XXX offers”, “specialists of company XXX are certified under the program XX”, etc.
