Monitoring email and phone violates European laws

Monitoring e-mail and phone calls of company employees may violate human rights. This verdict was made last week by judges of the European Court of Human Rights.

Government employee Lynette Copland (Lynette Copland) sued almost $ 18 thousand (of which $ 12 thousand - legal costs) from his employer - Carmarthenshire College, located in Carmarthenshire, Wales. One of his leaders was engaged in reading the email of his subordinate, as well as listening to phone calls.

According to the results of the hearing, a court decision was announced: if the company adopted an "acceptable policy of personal use" (however, this policy may not exist explicitly), and if the company is not able to warn its employee about possible monitoring, his right to use telecommunications for personal purposes protected by law, or rather, the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights.
