District number 9 - the disappointment of the year
This is disappointment, so disappointment! So many rave reviews: “brilliant film”, “smart fiction”, “new look at aliens”, but what is the result? In the end, we were simply told that all “not such” are perceived as hostile. And it's all! Can you imagine? Aliens have been living on Earth for 20 years, and all that the director was able to say about this is that xenophobia is also spreading to aliens. There is nothing even to think about, it is completely obvious and lies on the surface.
But you could raise so many interesting questions. For example, the question of religion. Does other sentient beings have religion? How would spiritual leaders of major religions and simple believers react to the emergence of aliens? Acceptance of the faith of people by aliens or by people of faith of aliens. Various mass psychosis, because if you think contact with aliens - this is a serious impact on the psyche. Even the alien society itself could be made more interesting. For example, to deprive them of such a thing as a “lie” so that for them it simply does not exist and see how such a society exists and how it interacts with a society in which a lot of things are built on lies.
A whole bunch of interesting questions are just waiting for them to be raised, but instead I got a banal xenophobia seasoned with a classic blunt action game, where everyone runs under bullets, no one gets into anyone, and every time there is a thread in the balance, some kind of wonderful salvation. Why all this in a serious film, I did not understand.
