What is Mandriva doing

What is easier than making a distribution? And what do these freeloaders do - distributors in general? Use someone else's work? This is a very dangerous misconception - all the “distroconstructors” make a feasible contribution to the common piggy bank and the piggy bank of improvements of the distribution itself. What does Mandriva (the creator of Mandriva Linux) do and what projects is it working on?

XtreemOS
The second version of the Mandriva Linux-based GRID operating system will be released soon. The Mandriva Flash USB project is also related to this project, in which support for a GRID cluster is turned on in a couple of seconds. Ideally, any version of Mandriva Linux should be part of the “big cloud”, allowing you to consolidate computing resources regardless of the power of the computer. But this task is not very near future.

Mancoosi
Starting with Mandriva Linux 2010.0, users may be surprised to find that they are invited to participate in the Mancoosi project. What is this project? Its main tasks are:

• Improving the meta-installer (urpmi) by analyzing dependencies before installing the package and providing a high-level selection (a package with a smaller size, more stable);
• provision of the possibility of rollback installation. The Mancoosi task is to combine a large number of errors from various distributions in order to be able to determine the best packet selection algorithm. The result of these “competitions” will depend on your error reports.

As a result of the project, the best algorithm will be implemented in urpmi.

Quality Assurance
Mandriva is also working on several projects, such as Qualipso or Helios to improve the quality of the distribution.

Graphical user interface
Mandriva is working closely on the Nepomuk API and on integrating the interface, where the user can see links, files, mail, a list of subtasks and other data depending on the application he uses.
Thanks to him, for example, you can now in Dolphin find the result for the query “my recent files” or “articles about Linux”.
The problem of mail annotation in KMail is being solved with the help of natural language.
