American company St. Jude Medical offers its own solution to problems with persistent back pain. The Eon Mini device, about the size of a silver dollar (2.5 cm), weighs just under 30 grams, is implanted under the skin of the abdomen or buttocks, it blocks pain signals that would otherwise flow unobstructed to the brain. Eon Mini is powered by batteries, which, according to the authors, should be enough for 10 years. With the help of the remote control, the device can be directed to specific pain areas. The device is approved for use in the United States and some other countries.
