A few days ago, I created a tweet in which I wondered how much more time had to pass before a “tweet” button was added to Google Reader at the end of each post. I decided that it would be soon and turned out to be absolutely right. Today, the Google Reader team has
announced several new product updates, including, aha, the ability to post a feed on Twitter.

But that is not all. You can also easily post your feed to a bunch of other places: Facebook, MySpace, Digg, StubleUpon, Blogger, and others. To enable this feature, simply go to the “Settings” section of Google Reader and enable the services you need. If you do not see your favorite service in the list, you can always add it using the “Customize” button.

Another innovation will allow you to easily subscribe to the subscriptions of your friends. This is an obvious but enjoyable feature that makes it easy to find subscriptions that you might be interested in, provided, of course, that you are really interested in people that you follow in Google Reader. This feature also includes updates from Twitter, so you can easily import all of them and see what a person tweets through Google Reader if you don’t want to watch Twitter all day.

But, perhaps, the best innovation from this heap is the enhanced features of the “Mark all as read” button. We all use this button when we realize that we cannot read these hundreds or thousands of new messages. But now we can mark messages older than one day, a week or two weeks as read, leaving new ones in order to read them calmly. This is a great idea.

Google Reader still has social problems, but it's hard to challenge any of today's innovations.
From myself I will add that the pleasant “Send To” feature is missing in the Russian version of the interface. I hope this will be fixed soon enough.<a href=achover.ru/2009/08/google-reader-going-to-be-social> On my blog
