A new wave of spam spreads in Skype

All the same, don’t say much and write to our users that you don’t need to follow any links that come to Skype, and to other programs, even if the message came from a friend, but still go, and even download files there without thinking they run.

As a result, such unwise activities in Skype spreads another wave of spam.

The principle of spreading spam is quite simple.
The user receives a message from the contact that is in his list.
The message contains a text similar to the following (spelling is preserved):
" Hello!!!
Do you want secret smilies like (drunk) (rock) (finger) (mooning) (bug) (poolparty) and others!? Then download them yourself at the address below !!!

Of course, the temptation to surprise your friends with secret emoticons Skype is so great that many click on the download link and get to the page of the site where they are shown the screen of the utility for adding hidden emoticons to Skype messages and offer to download it.



I note that there is no point in using any additional utilities, as to add hidden emoticons, it’s enough to know their textual representation and simply insert them into the chat with brackets, like so: (mooning). There is a page on the Skype Club where you can view all available hidden Skype smiles , and you can easily copy their code into the message in the same place.

Back in our sheep spammers. In search of a “much needed utility,” the user clicks the link and downloads the smiles.vbs file to his computer. Oddly enough, but many are not worried about either the size or the file extension, indicating that this is Visual Basic Script. I will not quote its content in order not to tempt anyone for such feats :)

After launch, the script accesses the Skype4COM object, launches Skype and sends the entire message to the contact person that the user initially received: “Do you want such secret smilies ... blah blah blah ...”
The circle is closed. The process further extends exponentially.

I want to note that this time it is impossible to talk about the spread of the virus, since the script does not do anything unless it is launched independently. It is only a script for Skype. But if our users continue to behave so carelessly in the future, it will be extremely difficult to avoid the spread of real Skype viruses.
