Either I do not understand something in this life, or something really in this world (in some part of it) is somehow wrong. There is a format fb2 , the first version of which was published in the same 2004. Not just an extensive patent application, but a full description and specification. There is a bunch of software that works with this format. The format uniquely identifies the markup of the document, it is not lost when saved, the format is stored as a single XML file, including attachments (in binary form). Why was this patent issued?
