Video podcasts in HD appeared in iTunes Store

One of the main disappointments for Apple TV owners was the lack of High Definition video. And who will not be offended to have a product that is compatible with 720p HD video, but not be able to download this video? Now there is no reason for disappointment: in Washington, there were video podcasts from the Washington Post in 720p HD.

These video podcasts had a 4061 Kbps bitrate. This is a big breakthrough compared to 1516 Kbps, in which, for example, the “Office” excerpt was coded. It is worth noting that Apple TV supports video with a bitrate up to 5 Mbit / s. Of course, the quality of the video depends entirely on the size of the file: HD video podcast that lasts 8.5 minutes, weighs as much as 250 MB - the 21-minute “The Office” movie mentioned above has this size. The file size affects not only the time it is downloaded, but also the buffering time before playing. To watch without stopping and delays, you have to connect Apple TV to your computer either through a wired connection, or via Wi-Fi 802.11n (with 802.11g video already “slows down”), or by preloading the file to the player’s hard disk.

Of course, iTunes and Apple TV were always compatible with HD video, but before that you had to download video files separately and then import them into iTunes. The beauty of this news lies in the fact that HD-video has become available in the iTunes Store. It remains to be hoped that the emergence of HD video podcasts means the imminent appearance in the iTunes Store catalog of films in the same quality.
