Recently we had a message about a “portable” gym for climbers:

The system is simple, in fact - a treadmill, set vertically upwards.
And many people in Habratope spoke on the topic “a toy for a fitness room”: the monotonous shape of the relief of a similar wall will get tired after a couple of hours of training - the hands will work on the machine.
')
Of course, there is no work with a safety rope, but in terms of the variety of relief and design improvements, you can come up with a few simple things that (surprisingly for me) were not offered in that top. And that will make the "toys" really useful thing. Here are some suggestions:
Modification 1: insert a mechanism inside the device that will rotate one of the “grasp-resistant” prisms at an arbitrary angle with each pass of the tape. A person will first look, and think, before taking on a prism - maybe it is better to take on another, more comfortable one?
Modification 2: put a mechanism above the device that will remove and insert these resistant-grasping “protrusions” into the cassette-drive, and at some points in time (after a couple of tape passes) insert it back. The protrusions make quick-detachable. It is quite easy to implement, while the fastening reliability will also remain on top.
Modification 3: make a completely “composing” relief, making holes in the tape every 5 centimeters from each other. Due to this, the above mechanism will be able to create absolutely arbitrary reliefs. The principle of construction of the relief will resemble the principle of printing matrix printers - a mechanism will drive along the top rail, inserting “protrusions” into the necessary holes. As for positioning (protrusion - aperture), all problems in our time are already easily solved.
Depending on the level of complexity of the "mountain", the controlling controller will insert stems and tongues more or less often.
Modification 4: someone said that there is no work with the rope? No problem, we adapt the bracket with the block to which this rope will be attached above the device. Climber, if desired, can use all professional equipment.
Modification 5: for entertainment, you can attach a projector to the upper extension bracket, which will project a previously captured video on the mattress below, shot by lifting the video camera to the top of the rock (lens down). It will turn out that the climber will be able to “visually” looking down to see how high he “climbed” :)
So it goes. I will not patent ideas :), I just wanted to share my thoughts about how it is quite simple to do something more complicated / useful from the “toy for fitness”.
