Star Wars rest - comments

After reading the article MOESK: Star Wars rest or Chubais is gone - the ice has moved !!! I wanted to give a few explanations.
In the comments to the above post, there was often an opinion about “cutting the dough”, it is very likely to be the case, but the control room itself costs a penny compared to the cost of the control system.
The images show a huge room. The question may arise: "Why so much?". Everything is trivial, previously there was located the old control center with automatic control panel. This is when metal cabinets are located along the walls with a bunch of light bulbs, toggle switches, indicators and other devices of an incomprehensible purpose. A duty shift ran along the walls and controlled the power supply.
It looked like this:

Now the cabinets are removed, instead of them there are computers, with the help of which they control the process.
I counted 6 “passenger places” for the staff on duty, each with 3 monitors. Whether 6 people is enough or not, I will not answer. I think that's fine. It can be assumed that all of Moscow is divided into 6 sections, each of which is monitored by the operator.
This is what the operator console looks like, which Honeywell delivers to the company where I work:

At the center of ammonia production, there are seven such ammonia plants. The photo was taken for an example, in the end it will turn out very well, although not as beautiful and expensive as in Mosenergo.
The most interesting question: "Why do we need such a huge panel?"

It seems to me that the approach to the organization of the working space is correct. After all, the dispatchers will have to work for 12 hours with a high concentration of attention, you should take care of their comfort. The cost of such a control room is justified.
Now a few words about the control system itself.
As a rule, DCS (distributed control systems) are applied at such level objects. The main requirement for DCS is fault tolerance. For her, the refusal, and accordingly the shutdown of the technological process, is unacceptable. High fault tolerance is achieved by reserving (as a rule, duplication) hardware and software components of the system, using components of increased reliability, introducing advanced diagnostic tools, as well as through maintenance and continuous monitoring by the person.
PS Thank you danin for inviting karma for transfer to the "Office"
