General Fusion claims it can build a prototype fusion power plant within ten years, in less than one billion dollars.
And they have already collected contributions from various investors in the amount of 13.5 million dollars.
Unlike the 14 billionth
ITER project in France, General Fusion does not use expensive superconducting magnets to get hot plasma. And does not use the
most powerful laser systems , as in the Livermore National Laboratory, to obtain high temperatures, leading to the appearance of plasma.
In place of this, General Fusion claims it can create a thermonuclear reaction that gives more energy than it needs to initiate. Using low-tech, brutal force, with advanced digital control technologies. 220 pneumatic pistons create acoustic waves in a sphere filled with liquid lithium, leading to the appearance of a plasma ring in the center.
The idea itself is not new, it is 30 years old. But, then it was unthinkable, digital control of the accuracy of acoustic waves.
As one of the authors of the project “we are introducing new technologies into the old idea”
