Apple's netbook. Have time to prepare for the gold rush?
More and more often in the news feeds there are rumors about a new device from Apple - a keyboardless tablet with a ten-inch screen.
It can be assumed, that:
- the company will release this netbook this year
- the device will work on the iPhone OS
- APM processor architecture, 1 GHz processor frequency
- OpenGL ES 2.0
- the device will be designed for constant internet connection (3G, WIFI)
- the tablet screen will be with a diagonal of 10 inches with an aspect ratio of 16x9
- a branded iPhone multitouch is likely to be integrated as well
- the device will have no physical keyboard (this is supported by the fact that on a lot of fakes where there is no keyboard, and on common sense a device without a keyboard will be much easier and cheaper to manufacture)
- the cost will be 20-30 percent lower than the most inexpensive Apple laptop ($ 700- $ 800)
- as with the iPhone, programs for the device will be sold in the AppStore

Based on these assumptions, companies and lone programmers working on the iPhone software market can make a conscious decision about starting to design and develop software for a new platform.
Of course, while there is no SDK, device descriptions, etc., this kind of activity would be a rather risky exercise, but several weeks saved at the start for developing prototypes, running ideas, drawing interfaces can turn into quite tangible thousands of dollars only because the program was released to market first.
I would like to ask some questions to you, dear colleagues, and hear your predictions.
1. What programs do you think will be in demand first of all by Apple netbook users?
2. What screen resolution will netbook have?
3. Will it be an iPhone OS or a truncated Leopard (like Tiger in Apple TV)?
4. Are there any hopes that the vendors, having learned the iPhone AppStore lesson, will not start the price race down and the price of the applications will be reasonable $ 10- $ 20?
