Almost a year has passed since the moment when it was first mentioned that in the future netbooks will switch from processors with x86 architecture to ARM-type “stones”. Such processors, with equal or greater performance, are much more economical than the traditional x86.
Today Pegatron - a subsidiary of Asus announced that this transition has already taken place.

A prototype of a mini-laptop with an ARM Cortex A8 architecture - Freescale iMX515 was demonstrated to journalists. The trick is that the same chip is installed in the Palm Pre smartphone. The only difference is in frequency characteristics: Palm Pre operates at 600 MHz, the Pegatron prototype - at 1 GHz.
Despite the fact that the new processor has a lower frequency than the traditional Intel Atom netbook, it perfectly copes with the display of HD-video, and is also able to cope with some three-dimensional games. The netbook is also equipped with two USB ports, a VGA output and a card reader.
The developers promise the average duration of work from a standard battery - 4.5-8 hours of operation.
But in general, we are waiting for the prototype to appear on the market: -)
