Yesterday, Samsung and its partner Intrinsity
presented the fastest processor for handheld computers of all that are currently on the market. This model is codenamed Hummingbird with a clock frequency of 1 GHz.
The new processor is very similar to the 600 MHz “stone” on the
ARM Cortex A8 core , which is used in the iPhone 3GS (see photo of the disassembled device under the screen). Now Samsung is going to release a 1-gigahertz version of this processor.
Samsung representatives have confirmed that the new processor can be released in the S5PC100 form factor with almost no changes. This format is used in processors iPhone 3GS. However, there is no contract with Apple yet. Apparently, negotiations should take place in the near future. Probably, the “apple company” with its sales volumes can now hold real tenders between component manufacturers.

Compared with the ARM Cortex A8 in speed can only Toshiba TG01 processor, which we
described earlier . This is the first gigahertz PDA in the world, although it works on Windows Mobile.
The photo below shows the iPhone 3GS motherboard.
