Copyright infringement is now a felony
The maximum penalty for violation of copyright and related rights, as well as rights to a trademark or appellation of origin of goods is increased to six years in prison.
Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding federal law “On Amendments to Articles 146 and 180 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation”, adopted by the State Duma on March 16 and approved by the Federation Council on March 30 .
Thus, the law transfers these crimes from the category of medium gravity to the category of serious ones.
