The world's first green laser diode will help in the future to develop new televisions and pocket projectors.

The Japanese company Sumitomo Electric Industries has developed a "first-ever (pure) green laser diode". Previously, to get green, you had to convert it from other colors. While it can be generated at room temperature, such development may in the future significantly improve existing TVs and pocket projectors in terms of power consumption and size.
Gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors used for the production of blue LEDs will be the main material for the production of green lasers. Unfortunately, the material has a certain phenomenon, the luminance efficiency decreases and the wavelength increases. Sumitomo Electric's research lab solved this problem - they managed to create a GaN crystal that prevents a drop in brightness efficiency, with the result that they managed to create a pulsed laser operating at room temperature and emitting in the "clean" green range on (531 nm). This is the first green laser diode in the world.
