Microsoft is considering a new distribution model for its Zune player - including the free provision of this device to its subscribers.
The commercial director of Zune, Jason Reindorp, in
an interview with PC World for the first time publicly told the idea of distributing Zune like the one used in the implementation of mobile phones. He said that "Microsoft is exploring many ideas and this is just one of them."
Jason said that for the first time the company had thought about this way of distributing its Zune after considering the level of user interest in the Zune Pass, a subscription music service. Raindrop declined to name the number of subscribers, but said that, compared with January, their number had increased by 65%.
Also, the Zune commercial director said that the distribution of players is just one item from the series of "non-standard ideas", and that such a move will help the company compete with the iPhone, which should appear in three months. By the way, when asked about the creation of the Zune'phone, Raindrop responded that Microsoft is not seriously considering this option.
