Twitter is more popular in the media than in life

Why do journalists like Twitter so much? Unknown. But the fact is that the world's largest media outlets talk about this website every day for free. The information flow is so great that no company in the world today is able to compete with Twitter in the frequency of mentioning in the media. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of marketers.

Specialists from the VMS monitoring service tried to calculate how much these publications can be estimated on the basis of the standard price of the advertising display. The amount is just astronomical: $ 48 million only for June 2009, and only in the largest American media!

The most interesting thing is that the word Twitter sounds more often in the media than even Google, although the largest Internet search engine is much more popular than the Twitter site. In other words, Twitter takes a lot more space in the press than in real life.

Marketers claim that it was such a massive marketing promotion caused by the growing popularity of Twitter. In June, the site’s audience grew by 14% compared with the previous month (up to 21 million people).

Such an exaggerated popularity can disappear very quickly after the termination of the marketing “promotion”. It is much more reliable when the audience of the service grows in conditions of absolute media silence (for example, as the popularity of torrents that no one promotes on TV).
