On the night before Easter, I decided not to sleep, but by diligent labor for the benefit of all those eager to learn other languages, to mark the bright Resurrection. But in the middle of the night I slept a dream, and I dozed off in a chair in front of the computer.
And I have a strange dream ... I saw an old man in a red cloak, balding, with a thick beard, and said:
- Remember the four sides of the holy cross. And in order to drink from the cup of the Holy Spirit, first empty it ...
It was as if a shock struck me, and I woke up staring blankly at the monitor, on which the page of my site was still glowing ...
What do these strange words mean and how do they relate to all that I do?
And then I remembered - four skills, four levels, four sciences ... It is this number that should determine the whole system and classification, and its symbol is the cross!
A koan about a full cup, I knew for a long time:
Nan-in, a Japanese Zen teacher, hosted a university professor who came to learn what Zen is. Nan-in invited him to tea. He poured the cup to the guest to the top and continued to pour on.
The professor watched the cup overflow, and finally could not stand it: “It’s overflowing. Will no longer enter! "
“Just like this cup,” said Nan-in. “You are full of your own opinions and thoughts. How can I show you Zen if you have not first emptied your cup? ”
I got it!
The main problem of learning languages is turning off the internal dialogue in the native language, which takes up to 95% of the resources of the mind, but almost no method pays any attention to this! A child up to 10-11 years old doesn’t have an internal conversation, it’s like an empty or half-empty cup and new knowledge and skills are so easily poured into it. An adult is an overflowing cup, and it’s not so significant whether the “direct” method pours only the “tea” or the “transfer” method in turn and the “tea” and “coffee”, the result is equally deplorable. And only some exercises from the so-called “intensive” methods allow, even without realizing the mechanism itself, to at least briefly turn off the internal chatter, giving excellent results. Similarly, some talented students, unknowingly learning to evoke such states in themselves, while learning in any course using any method, achieve results that are dozens of times superior to fellow students, causing envy and admiration. So there are polyglots, "linguists from God", fluent in dozens of languages.
A strange dream brought knowledge in an unusual way, and now much has become clearer and simpler.
