Linux Penguin - a stuffed Linux site

Hello Habralyudi

I never wrote anything on Habré, I wrote only a couple of comments recently :), but periodically I read interesting posts. I registered on the site for a long time, and only now I decided to use the "official position". I wanted to write to the blog I am promoting myself, but I don’t have enough karma, so I am writing directly to my blog.

Penguin linux

And I want to announce my project - pingvinus.ru , which opened about four months ago. The site is called Penguin Linux . I do all the main work on the site directly, but several people also help me.

Prehistory

I started using Linux for a long time. First, at work, and then at home, I switched completely to Linux (I use Ubuntu). I have long wanted to create a website dedicated to Linux, but I wanted to make it not quite like everyone else. I wanted to make a little home site, cozy, if I may say so. Therefore, I boldly called it the First Linux Plush Website :-) and came up with the fancy name Penguin. I wanted to create a website with screenshots, easy navigation and not copy articles from other sites. I decided to collect information myself and if I’m required to provide links to relevant articles and materials.

Implementation

I chose CMS Drupal as an engine, as I already did several projects on it. At the Penguin used standard modules - CCK, Views, Organic groups, Captcha, Fivestar and others. A small module was written on its own to build navigation through program and game catalogs. And also minor improvements were made at the template level. At the moment, one of the drawbacks is the slowness of Drupal and the load on the base.

Content (content)

The site consists of three sections. Notes (small articles, posts), the catalog of programs and the catalog of games under Linux . As I have already said, we ourselves write the texts on the site, we ourselves take screenshots of programs and games. Of course, not every program can be tested, so we make some descriptions based on descriptions from product developers. Even during the development of the project, I had doubts about how many games are under Linux. But as it turned out there are a lot of them and almost all of them are very interesting and fascinating. In general, each visitor can add his own material to the site, but I really want the texts not to be copied from other sites.

Conclusion

Now the site is updated with new information about twice a week. It all depends on our work load, on laziness and enthusiasm. I really hope that you will like the site and be useful to you. We invite to visit: pingvinus.ru
