But the classical system of learning foreign languages is terribly tedious, time-consuming and inefficient. Practically no one after a school or college (if it is not foreign language) course cannot freely not only speak and understand spoken language, but also read and write, without having worked long enough in addition, independently or with someone's help.
At the same time, a lot of so-called “intensive” courses offer to quickly and efficiently teach any foreign language in a very fast period - one-half year-couple months-month-week, subject to payment of the n-th amount of evergreen American presidents. Moreover, almost all of them assure that only their methodology is truly correct, and the rest of the courses are ineffective, incorrect, harmful and fraudulent. There is also a huge number of methods, books, programs, Internet resources for independent study of the language, and all of them are also completely ambiguous and contradict each other not only in particulars, but also in the very basics.
Faced with the need to quickly learn a language and apply my skills to work with large volumes of information, I was shocked by the mess that is happening in this industry. As a techie, I had an overwhelming desire to put at least some order and system in it.
