In the near future, all the electronics around us will become a little Kyrgyz,
Kommersant writes . The fact is that in the Fergana Valley a unique Soviet plant for the production of polycrystalline silicon, a very demanded and scarce material in modern times, has been commissioned, especially since the global market for silicon is currently divided between few monopolists.
The silicon plant in the town of Tash-Kumyr began to be built in the 80s, then it was listed as a priority object of union importance. The place was chosen carefully: there is an excess of electricity (the cascade of the Toktogul hydroelectric station), a large river nearby and deposits of quartzite. However, the company did not have time to adjust the normal work; it was only now possible for the new owners from Tash-Kumyr Silicon Productions to do it. They invested $ 15 million in the plant and within two years they intend to increase the annual output from the current 165 tons to 2,000 tons (3% of world production). Raw materials for production are being brought from abroad, but will soon be transferred to local quartzites. The obtained polycrystalline silicon has already passed the test tests in the leading Russian laboratories of ZAO KHMZ-Astra, the Podolsk KhMZ and in the FSUE NIIP, Moscow.
Huge investments ($ 200 million) are needed to expand production, but Rosnano, which has almost unlimited financial resources, has already shown interest. Soon the Russian delegation will arrive in Tash-Kumyr, where they will discuss these issues.
Interestingly, thanks to silicon, Kyrgyz exports will immediately grow by 25%. In no other country in the world will silicon constitute such a large share in exports (in fact, only a few countries are engaged in production), so in this sense Kyrgyzstan will become the most silicon country in the world. The IT industry can breathe a second life into the economy of the Central Asian republic. The authorities are already making plans for the development of the electronics industry and the production of solar cells.

Well, in the town of Tash-Kumyr for the last year life simply flourished: 600 local residents got a job with a fantastic salary of $ 200 per month, and the price of housing in the city rose from $ 12 to $ 70 per m².
