Using a laptop in everyday life, users sometimes encounter a problem: the key on the keyboard “broke off”. The reason may be any factor: cleaning the keyboard, using a vacuum cleaner for cleaning, a crazy cat (yes, even this happens), a small child who is interested in everything around and accidentally plucked the key, and much more. But not everyone knows that this little trouble is easy enough to fix.
I will tell you how to put the button back without loss.

(careful! a lot of photos)
A misfortune has happened, and the keypad of your laptop looks like this:

')
Laptops are all different, but most of the time they mount is similar (mounting principle).
The key on the back side looks like this:

We see two pairs of mounts:
- two latches;
- two slots under the rocker ears.
The key cap is attached to the keyboard with the help of a special rocker, which consists of 2 parts connected by a hinge in the middle and forming the letter X (ha).

It often happens that the key "breaks out" along with the rocker. In this case, you must first detach the rocker from the key cover, install the rocker on the keyboard, and only then return the key to the right place.
To do this, take the key, snap off the latch, on the one side of the key, and output the antennae of the rocker and grooves, on the other hand:

We get 2 details: a key cap and a rocker.
On the keyboard for mounting there are 3 ears: one is bigger and two is smaller.

If for some reason these attachments have bent (for example, a heavy object fell on the keyboard, and as a result, the key jumped out), they must be bent into the correct position. Be careful, these bends cannot be bent much, because they are made of aluminum and break off easily, after which the repair will become very complicated.
Install the rocker on the keyboard:
- we get under a big ear of fastening

- lightly press the rocker on 2 small attachments

After you have installed the rocker, you can put back the key cap.
- we get ledges on a swing into the grooves of the lid

here we must act carefully and not miss the mark :).
Next, making sure that the ears went into the grooves, by lightly pressing the top of the key, fasten the key cover,
a slight click will be heard.

Done! key in place.

Large keys (Tab, Shift, space, enter), in addition to the plastic rocker, can have a metal stabilizer for uniform pressing.

On the keyboard backing there are two additional tabs for securing this stabilizer. The rest of the design is the same as described above.

First we start the ends of the stabilizer.

Then the lower "antenna" swing set in the slots and lightly put the button in place.

The spacebar (and sometimes other long keys) rests on two rockers and a stabilizer.

In principle, the installation is no different from the above installation of the Shift key.

Above was considered the internal device keys laptop company Hewlett-Packard.
I almost forgot. If the rocker, consisting of two parts when the incident happened, turned out to be disassembled, do not despair. Using a needle, toothpick, or other suitable object is easy to assemble. We get one side into the groove, and to install the second side we use our auxiliary object.

Now, dear users, you will not have questions:
- how does the laptop keyboard work?
- how to fix a key on a laptop?
- how to replace the key cap?
- what to do if the cat snatched the key on the laptop?
etc.
Good luck!
ps There are too many photos, an additional part of the article can be viewed on my blog (if someone is interested in this topic), where, for an example, you can see the device keys on Asus and Apple laptops, some differences and similarities are described.
