The scientific community recognized Twitter and included this word in standard English. British philologists contributed it to the 30th anniversary edition of the Collins English Dictionary , which will be published this year. The word has entered the dictionary both as a noun and as a verb.
The noun “twitter” is “a website where people can post short messages about their current activities,” the definition of the “to tweet” verb is “write a short message on Twitter.” In addition, the nouns “twitterati” (twitterers, Twitter users) and “twitterverse” (twitter world, website and users) will be added to the dictionary.
This is an undoubted success for the young service, which was launched just three years ago, and during that time managed to become part of mass culture and literary English. For comparison, the verb “to google” took twice as long to get into the dictionaries (this happened in July 2006). ')
