Lessons joost

Joost seems to be waiting for a sad fate. Surprisingly thorny path was the company. At first, an inconvenient application that, even before launch, was said to use distributed and P2P technologies. Then the application was closed and they began to broadcast centrally, from a site that amazed with its strange content. I found there old black and white asian films about ninjas and even more amazing nonsense. And now Mike Volpi is fired. In an interview, he cites the reasons for the failure of the project.

  1. Content owners decided that they themselves could be engaged in its distribution. [It really is. It seems to many content owners that it is easy to build your own channel on the Internet. But! It is strange that other players, such as Hulu and Youtube, were not affected by this approach. They are given content.]
  2. The most important lesson is that people want to watch good content. [Ok! Suppose they want to watch the best content, but no one has canceled long tail either. Who hindered building a business on all the rest of the content?]
  3. Joost never had access to good content.
  4. Some Disney content owners have chosen to sell content exclusively to the largest channels already established. In the US, this is Hulu, in Britain their eyes turned towards Kangaroo. [Yes, Joost is just out of luck here. He was the victim of the idiotic policy of Disney. Everyone had to sell content, not exclusively. After a few years, they become aware of this.]

Sorry. But outside of the United States and Britain, Joost (according to their assurances) had 3.5 million unique users. And yet, this was not enough for them.
