Russians have a special reason for pride: our Kaspersky Lab discovered the first virus for the iPod. The virtual creature, called Podloso, does not carry a real threat, but it does prove the very possibility of writing malware for these devices in the future. Such viruses are called "conceptual".
The virus requires the player to have the Linux operating system installed. After writing to the user's iPod, Podloso installs himself into a folder containing demo versions of programs. Automatic launch of the virus is impossible and must be made by the user (just remember the anecdote about the virus developed in Albania ).
Once launched, the program scans the hard disk of the player and infects executable files with the .elf extension. When trying to launch such files, the virus displays the following message on the device screen: "You are infected with the first iPodLinux Virus." ')
