The first month of Bing: the results

Today it is exactly one month since the official launch of the new search engine Microsoft, and almost not for a single day did it disappear from the headlines of IT press news: for example, yesterday search results appeared on Twitter, which was also an informational occasion .

Such effective marketing brought real results, especially in the first days after launch. According to StatCounter , already on the fourth day, Bing overtook Yahoo’s search engine in popularity and tore off a bold piece from Google. On this peak day, the newbie grabbed off 15.6% of the search market, and Google that day fell from 78% to 72%. If this situation persisted further, the result of launching Bing could be called super-successful. But the reality is different.

Already on the fifth day, Bing’s share has declined, and by the end of the month it was 8.23%, while Google has practically regained its lost ground, losing only one third of the American market. At the end of June, Microsoft won almost nothing due to the launch of the new project, because the old Microsoft search engine already controlled 7.8% of the market just before the launch of Bing. Yahoo share remained at the same level.

However, even the minimal gain from Google (one third per cent in the first month) can be considered a success by Microsoft executives, because usually they are constantly and absolutely losing on all fronts of online battles.
