The European Commission announced that the largest manufacturers of mobile devices have agreed on a universal charger.
Ten companies, including Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, NEC, LG, RIM, Qualcomm, Samsung, Texas Instruments and Apple, have signed a corresponding agreement. According to it, smartphones and communicators will be equipped with a microUSB-connector. This solution is aimed at both the environment (every year hundreds of thousands of accessories are thrown away) and the convenience of the users themselves (there is no need to keep several chargers in the house).

Starting next year, there will be more and more microUSB phones on the market. There will be no charger in their boxes - you will have to buy it separately. The European Commission believes that in 3-4 years all smartphones and communicators will support standardized chargers.

Apple’s involvement in this initiative raises many questions. Over the years, the company has introduced mobile devices to the market with a proprietary dock connector. Perhaps, the vendor plans to complete iPhone with an adapter for microUSB?
