If you have accumulated hundreds of bookmarks spread out in dozens of folders in your browser, then you are well aware of the state of the painful search for the desired bookmark. If you even know where the necessary bookmark is located, it’s still repeated to repeat the process of scrolling through a long list of folders and selecting a bookmark pretty tiresome.
Probably, this is already known to many, but for me the pleasant discovery was the method of using short names (keywords) in Firefox, as outlined in the article by Sal Cangeloso of
Firefox's Most Underutilized Feature . I will try to briefly outline the contents of the note, adapting it to the Russian version of Firefox that I use.
Suppose you go to the
Games for the mind every day
- Games for the Brain , and the bookmark is in the Games folder.
- Choose Bookmarks -> Games -> Games for the mind - Games for the Brain.
- Click on the right mouse button in the context menu, select "Properties".
- In the "Short Name" field, enter a word that is easy to remember, short and associated with this site. For example, brain . Click OK :)
Now it’s enough to enter
brain in the address bar of the browser, and you are on the right site. No mouse wander through the list of bookmarks.
Of course, many short names can not be remembered, but the classic seven plus or minus two for the main constantly used sites is quite possible.
The second very convenient use of short names is a quick search. Perhaps you know that to search Wikipedia, simply enter in the address bar, for example, “wp habrahabr”.
Quick search can be configured for any site that has a search. Example:
- Come on Habrahabr.
- Click on the search field with the right mouse button, in the context menu, select "Add a short name for this search ...".
- In the name field, enter “Habrahabr”, in the “Short name” field - “ha” (or “Habr”). Add the resulting bookmark in the folder "Quick Search" (you can in any other, of course).
Is done. Now you can search for Habrahabr by typing a query in the address bar of Firefox: “ha, short names”.
By the way, clicking the mouse in the address bar can be replaced with Ctrl + L or F6.
That's all! Thanks again to
