Good day!
Tabs and Accordion. We all came across these interface elements a hundred times. But what is the fundamental difference? Benefits? What where is applicable and where not? I want to express my thoughts on this matter and listen to yours.
Tabs
One of the translations is a bookmark. The interface element to display a group of documents in such a way that only 1 “current” document is shown, and the rest are hidden. This interface interface came to computers from office life: folders with documents were divided by such tabs into groups. And of course, phone books are often separated by tabs alphabetically.
')
Main
features :
- Shown is 1 document, the rest are hidden . This saves the interface from overloading information.
- Shown exactly 1 document . We must be aware of this feature.
- As a rule, tabs are shown horizontally . But it happens vertically.
Main
advantages :
- Tabs are shown in one place, near. Hence the convenience of navigation . And the integrity of navigation , which is also important.
- Everyone is already accustomed to tabs, because they see and use them everywhere (the same phonebooks, catalogs in libraries, etc.). And that means the housewife knows how they work.
The main
disadvantages :
- Long text in tabs looks awful. As a rule, inscriptions have to be minimized.
Tabs are designed to display information like "1 of N". But, for example, I would not do the phone book with the use of tabs, but would have invented something else so that I could see several “opened letters” at the same time.
Accordion
In fact, it is very similar to tabs, since also shows 1 “current” document, and hides the rest (although there is a variation that shows> 1 of the open document). This email came, probably from Russia, and was originally called a button accordion :) Difference from tabs: as a rule, the vertical arrangement of the “keys” (or “furs”) and, as a rule, the animation of the closing of the previous email simultaneously with the disclosure of the new (as if the movement of furs in the accordion when playing).
Main
features :
- As a rule, exactly 1 document is shown , and the rest are hidden . But sometimes there are those in which you can reveal more than one (although, IMHO, this is no longer an accordion).
- As a rule, the “keys” (or “furs”) of the accordion are shown vertically . But it happens horizontally. Well, the movement of these "furs" is beautifully animated.
Main
advantages :
- You can easily shove a long text
- It may be convenient to use for the Wizards (I think they understood me correctly, the wizards have nothing to do with it), because you finish reading the current open document to the bottom, and immediately proceed to the next step (since the next “key” is here, before your eyes).
The main
disadvantages :
- "Keys" are scattered. Hence, not the convenience of navigation . And the integrity of navigation is missing , which is also important. You can also easily lose focus (which version am I at now? And what is he on the score? And what else were you? And where are they? Below, you say?), When the opened document is rather “high” .
I note that although not every housewife plays the accordion, nevertheless, it is quite convenient and simple.
Conclusion
And there is no conclusion. The conclusion is higher in my judgments. However, in my opinion the accordion is from the evil one, it is much more inconvenient and not-usable to use than the tabs (why? See above: pros and cons). Now you have the floor, gentlemen!
