The idea to increase the size of mailboxes to this size belongs to the programmer Greg Tomkins. He admits that he overheard this brilliant idea from his children. During the argument, little Tomkins shouted to his sister: "I hate you to infinity," to which the girl did not lose her head: "And I hate you to infinity plus one."
“And then I realized how to compete with unlimited disk space,” says Tomkins. “Thus, if a Yahoo Mail user’s mailbox suddenly overflows, he can copy it to Gmail and add another message.”
Representatives of Hotmail also did not stand aside. They stated that although “they are not able to provide unlimited disk space, they can delete all mail at random intervals in accordance with the Live OneCare service, so the free space in the box will never run out”.
