Work with sound in * nix. Part 3

Another part, this time, as promised, about the effects.

Despite the emergence of such standards as calf and LV2, which were mentioned in the previous part, the basis remains LADSPA ( http://www.ladspa.org/ ).
Strictly speaking, the whole set of LADSPA plug-ins can be divided into 2 groups:
  1. Synthesis plugins used to create sound from scratch. Examples: Blop ( http://blop.sourceforge.net/index.html ), Omins ( http://www.nongnu.org/om-synth/omins.html )
  2. Plugins for processing. Examples: CMT ( http://www.ladspa.org/cmt/ ), CAPS ( http://quitte.de/dsp/caps.html ), SWH ( http://plugin.org.uk/ ), TAP ( http://tap-plugins.sourceforge.net/ )

But the plugins for the synthesis, if I may say so, "did not take root." First of all, due to the fact that so far there is no host that would allow you to work with them quickly and conveniently, although, perhaps, it will soon appear. (Pay attention to Ingen ( http://drobilla.net/software/ingen/ ), but it is still very unstable, therefore it is not suitable for serious work.)
Therefore, the main use of LADSPA is sound processing, and there is no equal to the variety of effects here - if you wish, you can find a plugin for almost every taste. And with support for applications, they are fine - almost any modern audio editor works with them, besides there is a separate host - JACK Rack ( http://jack-rack.sourceforge.net/ ), which allows you to create chains from LADSPA effects and “tie” any of the regulators to a certain midi event.

Jack rack

That's all - to describe the effects themselves in a way it is useless, they should be “listened”. Is that, I advise first of all to pay attention to the packs SWH, CMT and CAPS (links to off.sites above).

In the next part - a couple of words about working with samples.
