So, the second part, soft synthesizers.
Yes, there are not so many of them as in windows, but also those that are quite enough, especially if it’s enough to work with them and “understand” them.

1. Zynaddsubfx ( http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net/ ) is one of the few synthesizers, which is widely known, even among distant from the work with the sound of linuksoids.
Main features:

• additive, subtractive and pad synthesis, the possibility of combining them
• built-in effects (Reverb, Echo, Chorus / Flange, Phaser, AlienWah, Distortion (Wave-shaping), EQ, DynamicFilter)
• 16 multi-timbral parts, but the output is common, so using an external effects processor for a separate tone will not work
• LASH support

2. Minicomputer ( http://minicomputer.sourceforge.net/ ) is a very good mono-synthesizer, “sharpened” for creating an “experimental” electronic sound, but quite flexible for use in other genres.
Main features:

• simple and convenient interface
• multi-timbral 8 parties, one way out
• LASH support, unfortunately, is missing

3. Fluidsynth ( http://fluidsynth.resonance.org/trac ) is a synthesizer based on soundfont technology.
Main features:

• cli interface
• the size of the loaded soundfont presets is limited only by the size of the RAM
• LASH support

4. Zynjacku ( http://home.gna.org/zynjacku/ ) - host for synthesizers / effects based on LV2 technology.
Main features:

• unlimited number of LV2 clients, one way out
• a variety of LV2-plug-ins is not so great, but it is growing
• LASH support

5. Calf ( http://calf.sourceforge.net/ ) - a set of plug-ins and, in combination, the host for them.
Main features:

• native (for calf-host), as well as LV2, LADSPA and DSSI versions of plug-ins
• despite the fact that the project is quite young, it includes 8 effects and 3 synthesizers
• separate input-output pairs for each client (when working with a calf host)
• LASH support
