Change the background image on the login screen in Windows 7
As previously announced, in the new Windows 7 operating system, you can easily change the background of the login window. You do not need to change the resources in executable files or perform any other special actions. The process of changing the image is quite simple and can be performed even without the involvement of additional tools. This functionality is available and works correctly since build 7057.
In order to change the background on the login screen, you need to do the following steps. ')
Open the registry editor and find the registry key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Authentication -> LogonUI -> Background”. In this section there is a special key “OEMBackground” of DWORD type. The value “1” in this key indicates that you need to use a special design of the login window. If the key is missing, then it can be created manually.
Make sure that the folder “% windir% \ system32 \ oobe \ info \ backgrounds” exists. This is where Windows 7 will look for background images for the login screen. If this folder does not exist, then it must be created.
Put in this folder all the necessary images. For each permission in this folder you need to put your image with a specific name. If an image with the required resolution is not found, the backgroundDefault.jpg file will be used. It is important that each image should be no more than 256 KB, otherwise it will be simply ignored. The list of files that you need to put in this folder:
backgroundDefault.jpg
background768 × 1280.jpg (0.6)
background900 × 1440.jpg (0.625)
background960 × 1280.jpg (0.75)
background1024 × 1280.jpg (0.8)
background1280 × 1024.jpg (1.25)
background1024 × 768.jpg (1.33)
background1280 × 960.jpg (1.33)
background1600 × 1200.jpg (1.33)
background1440 × 900.jpg (1.6)
background1920 × 1200.jpg (1.6)
background1280 × 768.jpg (1.66)
background1360 × 768.jpg (1.770833)
If you do not want to perform all these actions manually, then for these purposes you can use third-party utilities, which are available on the Internet. One of the simplest of these utilities is Tweaks Logon Changer for Windows 7 . This utility will perform all necessary changes in the system registry, and also compress the image to the desired size and put it in the correct folder.
