Sergey Brin honored the memory of his teacher

After opening his personal blog last September, Sergey Brin updated it a second time. And again on the sad occasion. This time the cause was the death of Professor Rajev Motwani, whom Sergey Brin calls his teacher and friend. He says that this distinguished scientist greatly helped him in education, research and professional development. Back at the university, when Sergey showed interest in the field of data mining, Rajiv helped organize a working group of students and teachers, who occasionally gathered and discussed tasks in this area. Soon after, he greatly helped Sergey Brin and Larry Page in their initial work on algorithms, in overcoming technical and organizational problems in creating a Google startup.

Professor Motvani was an adviser and an early investor when Google was launched, and was also an expert at Sequoia Capital investment fund. He is well known for hundreds of publications in the field of the theory of computing systems, was the winner of the 2001 Gödel Prize for his work on proving the PCP theorem and explaining its application to the problems of nonproproizability .

Rajiv Motvani died at the age of 47 as a result of an accident in a pool near his home in California. Memorial service will be held today at his house from 5 to 8 pm
