almost there

I publish at the request of farcaller , because he lacks karma. Therefore, the pros, please go there.

I already wrote about a very interesting and promising technology called Cappuccino. Today I want to draw your attention to the second most elaborate project on this new framework - almost.at .

The debuted Cappuccino project remains 280slides from the authors of Objective-J and Cappucino himself. Almost.at shows us that it is possible to make an even more functional project on the emerging framework.

And so, what exactly is almost.at? This is a service that tracks interesting (from the point of view of the administration) topics on the network: on Twitter (in the form of tweets and pictures) and simply by keywords. It does it in a beautiful mac-like interface.

(the screenshot shows webkit-SSB, in other browsers it looks the same).

Inside almost.at it’s just a find for any developer on Cappuccino, since the original ObjJ code was not re-processed into compacted JS. Among the set of classes you can find very interesting solutions for the implementation of the interface. In addition, almost.at does not use nib2cib (interface converter from Apple Interface Builder to Cappuccino format), so one can look at practical approaches to the positioning of controls.

In some places, the code goes down to the JS level for specific tasks or optimizations. This is similar to how Objective-C programmers use C.

Almost.at is a great example of a “client web application,” and I recommend all js developers to turn their attention to Cappuccino if they liked almost.at from a user’s point of view.
