Estimated prices for Windows 7

A second ago, on Engadget they reported about a “paper” leaked from Best Buy, which contains information about the beginning of retail sales, recently announced by Windows 7.

If we assume that all this information is accurate, then Best Buy will allow you to pre-order Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade for $ 49.99 and Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for $ 99.99 from the end of June.

If these prices are really recommended and are not a special Buy Best Buy action, then this means that Microsoft adopted a rather aggressive pricing strategy for Windows 7. For example, the retail price for the Vista Home Premium Upgrade was $ 129.95 and on the Vista Business Upgrade (the closest equivalent to Professional ) $ 199.95 , which is ~ 60% and 50% more expensive, respectively.

Even if this is a Best Buy promotion, I can’t imagine them losing on every sale, so the retail price should still be lower than that of Vista.

If you compare the prices for upgrade-versions and apply them to the full editions, then Windows 7 Home Premium can cost ~ $ 99.99 ( Vista $ 269.99 ), and Windows 7 Professional - $ 149 ( Vista $ 299 ). If all the predictions are correct, then Windows 7 can be a pretty attractive proposition. Well, if not, then you still know where you can place an order in order to get the best offer for 7k. :)
