Microsoft installs addon for FireFox without asking

Unsinstall button for Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant is inactive

The .NET Framework 3.5 ServicePack 1, released this year when updating via Windows Update, installs the addon for Firefox, the Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant, without asking.

The Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant extension allows the user to use ClickOnce technology to install Windows applications with one click on the site.

Anxiety is the safety of this technology. When installing the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 update, the addon is automatically installed without the standard uninstall option (although the Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant may be disabled).

As a rule, the removal of Firefox extensions is a problem with a single click, however, you can remove the Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant only by making changes to the registry and removing the file from the disk.

But you should pay tribute to Microsoft. A patch has already been released that makes the “Uninstall” button active for this addon.

In a recent interview with Brian Krebs, the Washington Post newspaper talks about the trust of Microsoft users.

By installing extensions without permission, Microsoft undermines the assurance that the user can be safe by installing updates.

This raises the big question about what else Microsoft can install without the user's knowledge on its computer and whether it is worth including automatic updating at all.
