The
Free Software Foundation may prohibit
Novell from using newer versions of its open source code, thereby punishing you for working with
Microsoft .
Financial experts believe that if
Novell prohibits updating the software distributed under the
GNU GPL license , it will lose in competition with
Red Hat .
Analyst Global Equities Research, Trip Chowdhry, believes that
Novell will have to spend about $ 200 million annually on research, development and marketing to stay afloat without the help of GNU.
The Free Software Foundation recently published a draft of the
GPLv3 , a licensing agreement that they will use for their own software, as well as for software whose developers have agreed to its terms.

"The unexpected agreement between
Microsoft and
Novell , announced in November, poses a serious threat to free software users," says the organization, adding that it will add amendments to the draft GNU GPLv3, "to eliminate this threat."
