Tight: AMD GPU and DirectX 11

At Computec 2009, which is taking place these days, AMD showed the world's first GPU, built on 40-nm technology, which supports Microsoft DirectX 11. Both developments, the new chip, and the new API should appear by the end of this year. In an official press release of the company, it was not without pathos that it was announced that users should get ready for a revolution and that combining these two achievements of the gaming IT-business “will change the applications and games on the PC for the better” forever.

The company emphasizes that DirectX 11 was developed under the influence of AMD. In addition, many of the new DirectX features, such as tessellation, compute shaders, custom filtering, and so on, first appeared on AMD graphics chips. Therefore, in general, it is not surprising that the presentation of AMD clearly showed the improved quality of graphics in games and (the “compute shader” computational shader is entirely responsible for this) increase in PC performance in Windows 7 in a number of applications due to the video card.

At the end of the presentation, AMD representatives focused on the fact that many manufacturers have already expressed their willingness to create games with DirectX 11 support and optimize them for work on AMD GPUs.
