The actively developing market of displays based on electronic ink (or electronic paper, somehow) “lost” its pioneer, the company E-Ink Corporation, and at the same time acquired a new powerful player. E-Ink now owns Prime View International (PVI), a major display manufacturer and long-time partner of E-Ink Corporation (e-ink displays are among PVI products). For a merger (rather, a takeover) with E-Ink Corporation, a Taiwanese company will lay out a considerable $ 215 million.
This is not bad, considering the rapidly growing popularity of e-paper, the groundwork for the future. And, interestingly, this step is not the first. Earlier, in 2005, PVI had already bought Philips Electronics, a division that specializes in creating electronic paper. Considering that analysts predict that by 2013 an increase in the volume of the market for displays based on electronic ink to the level of $ 3 billion, that is, it is suspected that PVI will be developing so actively today. But the company is already a manufacturer of displays for readers such as the Sony Reader, Amazon Kindle 2 and the latest Kindle DX. It's only the beginning.
