For owners of netbooks, eee PCs that have branded SSDs installed, it’s no secret that these same SSDs are not very fast and, in addition, small. Smart people cut through this topic and offer a replacement for the standard SSD. For example, on the
MyDigitalDiscount website,
you can purchase SSDs of 16, 32, 64 and even 128 GB with a read / write speed of 125 / 55-90MB / sec.

Problem
A month ago, I changed a classic 320GB HDD with a 64GB SSD from OCZ in my laptop and ... I was so amazed at the result that I didn’t even believe it. I can’t compare what was and what happened with the numbers, because my old hard just fell out and I couldn’t get rid of HDBENCH, but the general impression is that I didn’t just change the drive, but upgrade the whole laptop.
HDBENCH results on 64GB SSD from OCZ such 130MB / 60MB (sequential read / write) - 70MB / 30MB (random read / write)
Enjoying the new thing, I remembered that on the netbook of his wife, too, are 2 SSD. But her computer speed does not cause joy. Having run HDBENCH on it, I saw that the results are deplorable. 25/16 on the main and 10/4 on the extra.
Then I wondered if it was possible to change the SSD in her netbook to a more productive one. A little googling, I came across the site
MyDigitalDiscount , which has a showcase of productive SSD for different models of netbooks. After studying the topic, I made sure that these SSDs are really worth it and decided to order one for myself. Fortunately, the store has a representation on eBay.
SSD replacement
The choice I stopped on the model
Runcore 32GB . At first I wanted to order at 16GB, but the price difference is not so significant, and 16GB would have to wait.
Ordered via eBay, paid via PayPal for its usual Visa Electron.
Through! 6! SSD days brought. FedEx hit speed. Usually parcels from abroad, I wait for 18 days.
In the delivery set was a screwdriver to unwind / twist the netbook, USB-cable and the actual SSD itself. The ssd installer was Acronis TrueImage. The guys are very well assembled package, thought about the end user.
Akronis did not come in handy for me, because everything we need at home is stored on a file server, and computers are used as terminals, so I did not bother with creating an image and transferring it to a new SSD. Instead, I took a clean OS image with a Recovery DVD for eeePC, unpacked it on an SSD and, using BOOTSECT, I wrote an MBR on it. It took 15 minutes. After that, I disassembled the eeePC, pulled out the old SSD, inserted a new one and it all worked. another 15 minutes to pound all Asusov rubbish and install OpenOffice. And about an hour to update XP through Windows Update. As a result, after 2 hours the netbook was already as if nothing had happened.
It is very important not to forget to update the BIOS of the netbook to the latest version, otherwise the disk may not be determined, this is written on the manufacturer’s website.
Result
Launched HDBENCH. Results: 90MB / 30MB (sequential read / write) - 40MB / 10MB (random read / write). Not what the manufacturer claims, but much better.
And most importantly - the wife is very pleased. :)
PS SSD operated for 2 days, while everything is fine. If there are problems - I will inform you.
